For the longest, over-the-knee boots have been in the spotlight. Though I've always wanted to own a good pair of OTK boots of my own, for some reason, it kind of slipped my radar. With the fashion seasons going through some strange times this year, I'm so excited to see some everyday-wearing trends come full circle. I've always been a big fan of knee-high boots. Something about tall boots that aren't too dominating for any outfits yet still serves as a statement just makes a lot more sense for my capsule fall wardrobe.

It just happened that I was in a fisherman village in Kyoto this past week so this outfit was definitely channeling some fisherman style. If you've been following me for a while, then you probably have already seen this pair of color-block pants styled a few different ways. Hopefully, this will inspire you to dig up some of your favorite pieces to refresh with a pair of knee-high boots.

Biker Shorts and Suede Knee-High Boots

The comeback of biker shorts was something completely out of hindsight for me. To say it is timely would be a little inappropriate because it's not like we all were looking forward to a 2020 spent mostly indoors and leaving our homes just to throw out the trash or pick up groceries.

Biker shorts took a bit to grow on me especially because it was something I felt too casual to incorporate into a "going-out" outfit. Fast forward to fall and as things are starting to resume here in Tokyo, biker shorts are my go-to for oversized t-shirts and sweaters. Usually, I'd pair them with my usual sneakers, but they are surprisingly chic with a pair of knee-high boots.

Shoulder Padded Tee and Linen Shorts

Officially almost out of days to post summer outfits from Tokyo, but just wanted to document this one since it's one that I wore at least 8 times in the past 2 months. There is no other neutral pairing, when it comes to outfits, that I can say I love more than a tee and some comfortable shorts. In previous summers, I've always gravitated towards denim cutoffs, but lately, I find linen shorts to be my go to. I especially love the fact that their pockets are so much roomier and the waist and cut makes it a little more forgiving for those extra fries that I always end up having with a side of bubble tea.

Neutral Leopard

This year's summer was definitely unlike any other. I mostly refrained from being outside until late July, and by this time, it was always scorching hot. That said, I also didn't feel right to overdress or anything whenever I had to go out.

It kind of made it the perfect timing to rediscover some closet staples of mine. This leopard satin skirt is so old that I don't even remember where it's from, but by now, I've pretty much worn it all of the ways I could think of. Yet somehow, it always seem to fit any new tank that I introduce to my rotating wear-at-home-stash. Anyone else's amount of tank top suddenly went up during these quarantine days too?

Casual Vintage Chanel

I've always been about keeping it casual and simple. The older I get, the more I'm drawn and invested into timeless pieces, not just in their style but how it works for my personal life. Trousers are a classic, but finding a pair that I can see myself wearing two or three years down the line, took me some time. A pair of good trousers for me took a while to source, then altered. But alas, here we are.

I came across these vintage Chanel trouser at a vintage shop in Tokyo last year. After thinking on them for about a week or two I decided to treat myself (quite contrary to popular beliefs, yes great vintages in Tokyo are abundant, but can be quite expensive as well). When I first got it, I had to put it through a thorough dry cleaning. After that, I found a tailor so that I can get them hemmed to my height.

A good way to think about whether your clothes is worth it, is to always think about: will you pay to dry clean it weekly or have them fixed if they got damaged?

Crop Knitted

In the years that I've had this blog and through the number of posts that I've shared- I didn't think that there would come a day where I would be starting off by saying the most generic email opening: I hope that you are doing well. I really mean it.

Somehow two months have passed since the world was flipped upside down, and 2020 skipped all of Spring. Wherever you are, I hope that you have something to at least look forward to whenever it may be that we get out of this, together.

For now, I wanted to share this quick outfit that I wore literally around the block (since you guys know that construction sites have always been my aesthetic anyway). I stumbled upon this top via Simonett's Instagram not too long ago, and it was something that I bought within an hour of thinking about it (which is super rare for me). This 'Nanu Top' is so versatile because it's a knitted material. I love that it's the perfect transition piece at the moment as it's warm enough for a chilly morning, but cropped enough to bare some skin especially with a pair of high waisted skinny jeans. There's actually a multitude of ways to wear this crop knitted top thanks to its unique construction and it's a piece that I can't wait to later with comes the fall again.

Cherry Blossom Season Blues

Just like that another cherry blossom season came and left so fleetingly. I wish I could say it was beautiful to enjoy the blooms without all of the tourists like every other year, but instead, it felt a little empty. It's a weird time in the world, but it's also the perfect time to fully reflect on everything that comes and goes without a warning. It has made me worry about the future, but so grateful for the present, now, more than ever.

I, of course, will miss these glorious days during this time of the year when all I need is a sweater to be comfortable walking around, but I also can't complain about having more cozy things to wear at home in a few weeks when I'll be cold with the AC on at home. Hoping that this made you feel a little better about all the sweaters that you probably bought but didn't get the chance to wear out either.
