Can't you tell how happy I am to have made it back to Mexico City just in time for the jacaranda season? I've only seen photos of jacarandas before, never in person, so I was completely mesmerized by how vibrant they are in person. As I admired them over the next few days during our trip, I couldn't help but feel how fitting their color is for a city like CDMX.

Ever since my last trip to CDMX last year, I have been eagerly looking for an excuse to visit again-- and it just so happened that Shun wanted to celebrate his 30th birthday with a few of our friends taco-hopping here. We had a late flight and landed early in the morning. In fact, this is the same outfit I wore on my flight. Oh how does an oversized blazer come in handy not just for spring weather, but also red-eye flights for early morning exploring. Although the weather is tempermental during this trip, I didn't pack too many heavy jackets for the month of April here. Keeping it simple with my outfits, I usually will pair with a statement piece like floral printed mules or a brighter color bag. This Loewe unintentionally went really well with this shade of brown on my Frankie Shop oversized blazer, no?

Blazer: The Frankie Shop (oversized, size down!)
Top: Cotton Tee
Pants: B Side Jeans (similar beige pair)
Shoes: Nanushka Babou Slipper (similar mule pair)
Bag: Loewe Puzzle Bag
Accessories: Necklace from Notte Jewelry

I've mentioned before in a previous post of our trip in Uruguay, but truly, this was a country that I don't think I would be visiting had I not have this opportunity to live in South America. I'll also confess that it wasn't hard to convince me to go, when I learned about this amazing property on Punta del Este called Posada Ayana. If you know me, or have been following along, I'm sure you can get a sense that I'm not very much a beach person. But visiting Uruguay and spending a few days at Jose Ignacio, I was kind of convince that I could ease into that beach life if more beaches were as stunning as the ones in Uruguay. Shun and I spent most of our days soaking up the sun and tasting a bunch of Uruguayan wines that we've never tried before. Most of the photos are taken at Posada Ayana, and one full beach day. Below, I've highlight some of the takeaways from our 4 days, 3 nights trip here.

To Stay
Posada Ayana is a small boutique hotel located in the charming town of Jose Ignacio, Punta del Este in Uruguay. As a small family run boutique hotel, it offers exceptional service, stunning ocean views, and a serene atmosphere that left me feeling refreshed and constantly inspired by all of the art-filled walls and corners. From the moment I arrived, I was swept away by the hotel's unique charm and elegance. My boyfriend and I were lucky to grab a room on the second floor that had views of the property's very own Ta Khut Skyspace by James Turrell.

To Eat
While the town is really quaint, there are some pretty great eateries close by. On the day that we went out to the beach, we had some drinks and fresh seafood at a stunning shack right on the sand, called El Chiringo. After a long day of soaking up the sun and exploring Jose Ignacio, we had the option of heading back to the hotel for a delicious dinner at the on-site restaurant or enjoy a wine-filled dinner at Solera, which was only a few minutes walk away.

To Do
One of the highlights of staying at Posada Ayana is experiencing the Ta Khut Skyspace installation by James Turrell. Fun fact, but this unique art installation is the first free-standing Skyspace in South America, and Posada Ayana is the only property in the world that hosts its very own James Turrell. It combines architecture, sculpture, and astronomy to create an immersive and contemplative space. As a guest of the hotel, I was able to privately access the exhibit straight from the hotel.

Punta del Este is a popular beach destination, so you can surely expect to find yourself close to some of the most pristine beaches where you can eat, sunbathe, kitesurf, and leisurely spend your day. On a not so windy day, you can enjoy a stroll towards the infamous Faro of Jose Ignacio and then climb up to enjoy the view. For something a bit more relaxing, I definitely recommend checking out some art galleries, and have a coffee at Rizoma.

Uruguay was such a gem of a trip for me, and one of my most relaxing trip so far in South America. If you're looking for stunning beaches that's off the radar, I couldn't recommend Punta del Este enough.

Landscapes at Sacromonte, Maldonado, Uruguay

April 10, 2023

Uruguay Maldonado Sacromonte Landscape Hotel, unique hotels around the world, Uruguay destinations, architecture and wine lovers - FOREVERVANNY
If I'm being honest, Uruguay was never a country that I thought I would end up visiting and experiencing with such leisure. For a long weekend, while I'm currently living in Peru, the boyfriend and I stumbled across Sacromonte Landscape Hotel and Vineyard in Maldonado Uruguay, which we thought would make for a comfortable first look at what this country had to offer. As it is a vineyard, one does have an option to visit for lunch and wine tasting experience or stay a night, we chose the later. Upon arrival, we were greeted with such amazing landscapes that I thought that we were lost somewhere in the countryside of Spain. Random to say but I think we passed by more cows than cars or people along the drive to the vineyard, and later learned that there's just about as much as 4x the amount of cows as the population of Uruguay. Which means, beef is amazing here- and what we ate plenty of during our stay at Sacromonte and Uruguay for the next few days.

While we are currently in the summer season in Lima, the sky is still overcasted most days, so getting to see clear skies and super green grass was something I felt like I always took for granted after how excited they made me feel in Uruguay. Our room at Sacromonte was fully mirrored to blend in with the landscape and also not be a disturbance to the animals who are also free to roam around here. We were right next to a small lake, making it super easy to spot animals throughout our stay that stopped by for a sip of water or to cool off. And even around the vineyard, we would catch this family of sheep grazing with one another.

Though we only stayed for one night, we felt super recharged from just absorbing the nature of Maldonado while enjoying some of the best wine and meals we've had in awhile.
